San Luis Potosi is a state in Mexico with an area of approximately 63,000 km2 and a population of over 2.7 million. Most of the state lies on the Mexican Plateau in the northern part of Central Mexico. The capital has the same name as the state - San Luis PotosÃ. The state is rich in minerals such as: copper, silver, zinc, antimony, mercury and tin, and is also known as one of the world's major producers of fluorite. The national parks are known - El Potosà and Gogorrón. Near the village of Aquismón there are two well-known natural attractions - the Swallow Cave and the Tamul Waterfalls. The area called Huasteca Potosina is located in the eastern part of the state and is a popular resting place among Mexicans. Tourists are also attracted by the historic center of the capital and the former mining town of Real de Catorce in the north of the state. Near Xilitly is the surreal sculptural park Las Pozas. A typical dish in San Luis Potosà traditionally consists of corn with the addition of pork or chicken, which shows the influence of Spanish cuisine.
