The Mexican state of Chiapas, with a population of over 5 million, is located in the southeastern part of Mexico. Most of its population is native Indians. The capital is Tuxtla Gutiérrez. The Mayan ruins of Palenque, Yaxchilán and others are located here. In general, Chiapas has a humid, tropical climate. but the climate is tempered in many areas by altitude. Mountain areas affect wind flow and humidity, thus concentrating humidity in certain areas. This creates the conditions for the formation of rainforests such as Lacandon Jungle in the northeastern part of Chiapas. Rainforests are home to thousands of species of animals and plants, some of which you will not find anywhere else in the world. Agriculture, livestock, forestry and fishing employ more than half of the population of Chiapas. Steve
